Default FF7 for the PS3 / PSP - and your new PSP

No- sadly not a remake. Nonetheless, ESRB has indirectly confirmed that the PSN network is going to be hosting FF7 as downloadable content for both the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Playstation Portable.

In other news; the PSP Go! was accidently confirmed via Sony's own Qore (someone will probably lose their job over that, assuming it was really an accident). I'm not really sure what Sony is thinking with the PSP Go. The PSP-2000 model (the 'slim') is already quite easy to carry around... the biggest feature of the PSP Go would have to be its even SMALLER size; somewhere around the size of an iPhone.

But what really gets me here... is that it has a SMALLER screen size than the PSP-2000 / 3000 model... whose major SELLING point was the larger screen. So you're upgrading to a downgrade... but you are also getting 16 gigs of built-in flash memory, BluTooth support, and better integration into the PSN.

And of course; no UMD slot. No word on whether or not the PSP Go! will utilize any sort of proprietary software to copy UMD games - and that should be interesting if they go that route; as it will likely lead to an even large rate of piracy.

The PSP Go doesn't interest me. Sony should've had 16 gigs of built-in memory from the start, instead of relying on the gimmicky memory sticks. And gadgets don't need to be small and sleek. If I was someone who showed off my cell phone or other gadget, I'd want it to be large and noticable. I'd say it's another failed attempt on Sony's part to match the success of the DS.

I'm not surprised about the FF7 thing. It's such a popular game that they can easily make a profit porting it. Why spend the money making an entirely new game?

What bothers me about the PSP Go! is the price-tag. Even Sony admits that the price take 'reflects a certain premium associated with a new product'. You know... in other words 'we are charging more because it is new and shiny, not necessarily because it costs more to product or to help cover the costs of R&D'.

    And they admit this!

I agree, Rob, that is bothersome. And to further it, they'll continue making exclusive, "critically acclaimed" games for it so people will buy the system. But only having it to play two games isn't worth the price.

I still own FF7 for the PSX, Cid. I would never buy a port of the game. I mean, it's the exact same game, right? In my opinion, it would be a waste of money.

I've got the original, but I'm tempted to download it for the PS3 so I don't have to keep my PS2 on. I think its reaching the end of its life.

...Yep. I'd much rather have the PSP 3000 model than the Go.

Richard, maybe you should buy both of these handhelds for me, and I'll write a review on each of them. It's the only way we can tell for sure.
