Real men do poetry. Sure, people on welfare in Detroit can string together prepositional phrases with colloquialisms to form elongated lines that never really say anything -- but real men make those words count. Go see for yourself: Open a new window, go to Google, and search for "Ludacris" and the first profanity you can think of. Chances are you just got about a million hits, right? Open one of those up, and read the lyrics. You good? Got the gist of it? He wants to have sex with some women, right? Okay then. Now, I want you to search for "sonnet" or "sestina". Read the first one you come to, and tell me it isn't better. I dare you.

The reason it's better is because, instead of being verbose to synchronize with some generic riff Sir Mix-a-Lot used to discover his wife's anus, it's very succinct. And chances are, if it was a good poem, that it has both personal and universal meanings.

So post your poetry. If you're a real man. Or Dawnbird.
