I curse you JaimieJr. I want corrective eye surgery, but I cannot get it yet. The green-eyed monster has taken up residence in my shoe, now.

I dont wear glasses,or contact lens. Go me!

Yeah, go away.

I've had glasses since fourth grade. There was a period of about a year in 8th grade where I had contacts, but I got tired of the taking out and putting back in routine, plus I'd lose them a lot.

You don't know how many contacts I've lost in the sink and never am able to find again.

My uncle told me about contacts you can wear day and night for two-three weeks straight that are soft lenses. He has them, and he likes them. I was thinking about getting them when my next eye appointment rolls around.

However, I've had these black frame glasses for quite some time and they're beginning to grow on me. So maybe I'll keep them around.

i payed about 1,700 + per eye...so...if you can afford it i say go for it. you wont feel any pain

I wish. I am legally blind without visual correction. To wear this auspicious mantle, one must be unable to see with clarity an object five feet from one's face. Without glasses, my eyes are somewhere around 700/20 and 900/20. This means that for me to see an object with clarity without glasses, it must be about five inches from my face.

I used to wear contacts. The sticking-in and taking-out was not so bad, but my contacts cost around two hundred dollars a batch because I have astigmatisms in both eyes. I wanted the day/night thirty day contacts, but when I last looked, they did not make them in a prescription high enough for my eyes. :(

I like wearing glasses. SO THERE :p

I don't like contacts, but I hate glasses even more. None have ever fit my face right or looked even partially decent on me. I do want some updated glasses though, so I don't have to wear contacts all the time.

I really want that surgery, but I'm pretty much terrified of all things medical. I'm afraid I'd pass out in the middle of it. I saw a show on tv once where they did that to the woman and while she said it wasn't bad at all, it looked terrifying to me. :(

My eyes are perfect. So, there. :P

But, if it makes you feel better, my hearing isn't what it should be. And don't get me started on other parts that aren't pulling their weight.

Oh, and my friends tell me that wearing glasses make me look like Tom Petty.

animeshounen

Tom Petty doesn't really wear glasses.

But I could be wrong.

There's a couple images on Google Image that has him in glasses, but by and large, you're right. I never bothered to look.

Stupid friends.

this is how the procedure go.

they put you in a room and prep you up, they put eye drops in that numb your eye a little. The nurse then tells you "some doctors like to give their patients valium (sp?) so they can relax, would you like some" and course you can says yes or no. They take you into the laser room. And make you lay down, The doctor then puts more eye drops to make sure your eye is nice and numb. They then tape your eyelashes to your eye lids and use this...thing to open you eye. But they are so numb you cant feel anything. During this time, the doctor tells you everything that he is doing. He takes this device that puts presure on your eye, and you'll see the light starting to fade away. When you see all black, thats when the cutting starts, and he cuts the skin of your eye open. What you feel is like one of your fingers softly touching your skin. It dont hurt or anything. He then cleans your eye and then he makes you look up at the laser, and turns it on (for like a minute) and what not. Since you dont have the skin of your eye on, all you see is like a firework thing. You will smell as if something is burning. But thats nothing to be scared of. Anyway, once he is finished he will put the skin back into your eye and you're done. The whole procedure in both eyes, takes less time than me writing this post.

So kelly you have nothing to worry about if you do decide to get it. Plus, you can have someone in with you if you're scared. I went in with my mom cause she was scared and i saw EVERYTHING they did to her and saw that it didnt look painful, Made it easeir for me to go next. Nothing to worry about :)

I would love to have it someday. That doesn't sound all too bad, especially the fact that it doesn't take long at all. I would definitely have to wait a few years though, until my eyes stop changing and I can actually afford it. Thanks for the rundown. :)

Dawnbird
August 13th, 2006, 8:46pm
Same here. Need money and a stable eye prescription first.

JaimeJr
August 14th, 2006, 2:30am
actually...i dont have a stable eye thing. they offer you plans, like you pay 1,000 (basic) for one year of surgery, 1,500 (gold) for 3 years, and 2,000 for lifetime...i got the lifetime, so when my eyes get messed up during the years, ill still be able to get it

I think the feeling of having my eye numb would be worth it.

Dawnbird
August 14th, 2006, 10:08pm
Ummm... I meant my eyes have to stop changing before I can have the surgery.

The thought of my entire eyeball numb... Wonder what it feels like when you blink? How would you know if you got dirt in your eye?

JaimeJr
August 15th, 2006, 3:39am
uh...with a few blinks dirt will get out of your eye, and your eyes will never stop changing, they'll keep getting bad with the years, not fast but they will. lets say...its like building layers, the laser burns the off, then with years the layers rebuild, so you re-do it o.o

Dawnbird
August 15th, 2006, 10:05pm
My eyes have to stop changing so fast before I can have the surgery. Is that clear enough?

Mrs. Richard
August 15th, 2006, 10:48pm
Yeah, your eyes will continue to change throughout your life, but they usually plateau off a relative amount and then, when you get older, continue to worsen.

Dawnbird
August 15th, 2006, 10:51pm
Exactly. I am waiting for the plateau. Almost there.

Mrs. Richard
August 16th, 2006, 2:01am
I was really suprised. I thought my eyes had definitely worsened a little bit, but when I went to my eye appointment on Mon., apparently they did not change at all. I'm going to get a cute pair of glasses tomorrow I hope. And they'll essentially be free, because my eye doctor is awesome. Then I'll have glasses and contacts I can see out of! (But not at the same time...)

Dawnbird
August 16th, 2006, 10:16pm
My glasses and frames cost almost 300$. Stupid Seiko lenses cost too much, but it was either get them, or wear Coke bottle lenses. I got them, and seeing how thick these are, I shudder to think what my lenses would be without them. The frames are not more than an inch and a half across, and the right is almost a quarter inch thick at the outside. The left is only slightly thinner.

I still wear glasses... I've had this perscription since 7th grade =P
I need new ones soon but my ****ing work's insurence doesn't cover eyes...
I keep getting **** in my eyes from work from all the dust and crap that floats around in the air.
I even got this little tiny vein showing on the surface of my left eyeball, if it is aggrivated by any little thing it'll twinge in pain for a couple minutes. It gets annoying.
Also, driving in the dark really really blows.
I've thought about contacts but the whole idea of having something in my eye isn't very fascinating. My eyes are very sensitive.

Blade

My eye surgery went over well too.

Although I didn't have eye surgery, and it was more like opening up a can of cola just now and chuckling as the blindies bicker back and forth about how much they spent to be able to see.

But congratulations anyways!

JaimeJr
August 19th, 2006, 1:46am
oh..i went back..one of the things...uh...retina's? was wrinkle and caused me to see fuzzy, well...they did it again..and it hurted this time. cause they put a contact over a 'open wound' if you wanna it call it that...contact fell out though

Dawnbird
August 19th, 2006, 2:56am
Hurted? What kind of Hurted?

Blade, I was going to compliment you on the new avatar. But you called me a blindie. Now, you are relegated to Oscar-The-Grouchland.

Vauly, quit whining about night driving. I live in freaking Phoenix. Land of reflective surfaces and sun-brightness levels matched only by the Sahara. I walk out of the house at seven o'clock every morning squinting. Driving at night is like twilight every where else. At least you can drive. I may not be eligible to drive (legally) with my current vision.

Well, duh. That has been the point I was trying to make. :p You take away my glasses, and I cannot even read the stupid Large-Print books they make for senior citizens unless my nose almost touches the pages. I have worn glasses so long there is a faint groove in the sides of my skull where the arms sit, and my eyes do not travel farther than the edge of the lense before my head turns. I only noticed that when I wore contacts, and would be turning my head to look at something that I could see perfectly fine.

Richard

Kodnr is gonna get Army glasses! they're called RPG's or BCG's.

RPG = rape prevention glasses
BCG = birth control glasses

they're huge dark rims. looks like something your grandma would wear in the early 80's.

Kondy Rice, you would think they would get you surgery so you don't have to clean your glasses or whatever in the middle of a battle. Then again, I have never seen glasses that cost +$1000 :(
