View Full Version : Final Fantasy 7 Remake Ideas...

What if Square were to make the Final Fantasy 7 remake in an entirely new direction. Let's say they were to keep the story, however, change the entire gameplay. Meaning you have the controls of like Ninja Gaiden as Cloud, and played through the entire game like that. This would give Square-Enix the opprotunity to not only tell the story in an original way, but also broaden the spectrum to gamers. The RPG fans would come back because, well its Final Fantasy, but then all the action gamers would come into play because it wouldn't be a typical Turn-Based RPG. What do you guys think??? Sort of like Dirge Cerebus with Vincent, but have this one star Cloud, and you could play as some other characters as well...

I always wondered what it would be like if they combined FF7 with Mary-Kate and Ashley: Sweet 16 - Licensed to Drive.

It sounds intreging, to be able to have it not be a turn based game and they are doing this for FFXII. But when u do this,it is still changing the game from a typical Turn-Based RPG to a free moving hack and slashing mindless action game. It may be a nice change but it may runein the game that we all know and love.

I don't like it ...

FFXII will be like FFVII, in that it uses the Active Battle System. It will still be command driven, like all FFs, but if you take too long perusing the menu, you'll get attacked.

Personally, I liked FFX's system, where you could see how different spells would affect the order players attacked.

They just need to bring materia back, but they need to use the sphere grid. That would just rock.

Richard
November 14th, 2005, 3:43pm
Well, that would be interesting, since you could fuse the different materias together to form a new one. Wow. The more I think about it, the more interesting that would be.

The problem is, the sphere grid component would be hard to work in.

Knodr
November 14th, 2005, 5:59pm
The Sphere Grid doesn't hinder your character as the Materia does. With the SPhere Grid you can only grow in power to have God-like strength and what-not but with Materia you have to sacrafice some stats for that power.

Blade

I played that game when it was called Castlevania: Lament of Innocence. :p

Richard
November 15th, 2005, 2:28pm
What did the what now?

Blade
November 15th, 2005, 4:48pm
Castlevania: LoI is exactly what you guys were talking about. One character with a mana sphere grid going through a castle and defeating a bunch of bad guys in real time. Instead, it's Mount Nibelheim and he has a sword.

LoI was good, and combining it with Square's dramatic storytelling would be awesome, but we need to give FFVII a rest.

If it was about FFVIII, on the other hand, and Squall could use his Gunblade as both a gun and a sword...

Cid Highwind
November 16th, 2005, 4:31pm
I think they should make an entirely new game. But not any of that X-XII &&&&. I want something like VII-IX, pretty much all Blade's saying about 8 would be cool.

Blade
November 16th, 2005, 11:38pm
Yeah, I'd love to see Square's version of Devil May Cry. Since these new consoles have "amazing power", maybe they could add all of the previous FF minigames.

How cool would it be to go to a giant Golden Saucer-like amusement park and play blitzball?

Richard
November 20th, 2005, 1:14pm
Ummmm, that just wouldn't work.

Blade
November 20th, 2005, 6:32pm
Really? I think lots of people would buy it.

Since I've unknowingly sould my soul to Satan I'm sure he bartered my soul to Square-Enix for some God-awefull reason. I've come to this conclusion since I have this undesirable feeling of giddyness whenever I walk by a game of either Squaresoft, Enix, or Square-Enix. Also, my eyes orgasm when I hear the words, Final Fantasy, and Wark!.

animeshounen
November 22nd, 2005, 12:37am
Personally, I'd like the idea of a Blitzball game. I mean, not the crap ass one in FFX. I mean like action oriented mix between Fifa and Quidditch kind of awesome. I'd really like it.

They should just release a mega final fantasy for the new consoles. Take what you loved about FF games and give it a new spin. Real blitzball, Devil May Cry style Playability, Chocobo Racing, Snowboarding, Motorcycle races, maybe even play as badguys.

Admit it. You'd wanna be Sephiroth and go GTA on a city, wouldn't you?

Richard
November 22nd, 2005, 10:24am
I think remaking FF7 from Sephiroth's perspective would be interesting...

Cid Highwind
November 22nd, 2005, 12:49pm
I think remaking it from Zack's perspective would be cool, they'd have to make up a lot of new story for that though.

Richard

Well, from anyone else's perspective would require new story. Thats the point =)

I always wondered what Final Fantasy 8 would have been like through the eyes of Seifer. Cause he basically has just as much of a story as Squall did. Plus you could be bad ass pretty much all the time. And everyone loves being a bad ass.

Richard
November 23rd, 2005, 10:19am
I love being a bad ass. Thats why I always play the part here.

Cid Highwind
November 23rd, 2005, 10:46am
^_^

I'd play the game from Seifer's perspective, that would be pretty cool. It would be cool to do the opening scene of VIII in a real battle and actually scar Squall's face.

Man all this talk about FF8 makes me want to play it so bad.

Richard
November 23rd, 2005, 1:04pm
I've been craving a playthrough of FFVII lately. I just might do it.

Blade
November 23rd, 2005, 4:11pm
Seifer was the most baddest ass of all.

How can they let him kill ODIN, and then put Ultimecia as the final boss?!

Knodr
November 23rd, 2005, 4:16pm
Better then Necron in FFIX. What the hell?

Blade
November 23rd, 2005, 4:26pm
I don't even count Necron as anything. Friendly Yans were tougher, and made more sense.

FFIX was a &&&& game anyways. I hope they never do a sequel on it.

Richard
November 23rd, 2005, 6:03pm
Yeah, FFIX wasn't the best game.

M@574 L337
November 24th, 2005, 2:13pm
I like FFIX, I think a sequel would be a good idea.

Blade
November 24th, 2005, 7:13pm
You liked FFIX? Why's that? I thought the battles were easy, the controls convoluted, the Trance system a big waste of time, and the half-animal characters to be laughable. Not to mention the ending, and the introduction of new villians mere seconds before a fight.

Richard
November 24th, 2005, 7:15pm
If any game deserved a good sequel (other than FFVII) it would be Final Fantasy X. Its a shame that no good sequel will ever come out for that game.

Melchior
December 5th, 2005, 11:47am
I've heard whispers in the dark places of the world that a FFX-3 is being talked of. Here's what I've heard.

You play as only the guys.
You basically seek revenge because all of the women have been slaughtered.
You play as Wakka's kid who can use magic and some sort of bladed weapon.
Auron, and Tidus make a return.

That game would rock so hard.

animeshounen
December 5th, 2005, 3:56pm
It would if it was true.

I did hear rumours of an FFX-3 however. Nothing for the story, anyway.

I do believe that FFX would be the easiest to make sequels out of, however. They definitley left a lot of room at the end of the game for possible sequels.

I like that idea, though.

Knodr
December 5th, 2005, 4:17pm
If all the women have been slaughtered then how would your re populate Spira?

M@574 L337
December 5th, 2005, 5:19pm
Maybe learn how to clone people? It worked in Saber Marionettes.

Their are always rumours flying about this and that. But I would not be suprised if they did make another sequel for FFX.

This is final fantasy X. Obviously they'd have to seduce the next Sin (The next reincarnation would be a sexy lady) into letting all the women back from the farplane. So the third one will basically the men...manning up...and trying to out-sex one another.

I am 4000% sure that is what is going to happen. You prove me otherwise, and by God, I'll show you a man who will eat his own shoe. There is no way in the world that I could be wrong.

(I really need to stop taking Benadryl so late at night)

Knodr
December 6th, 2005, 3:28am
Yea, well, Sin can't come back since Yuna and Co. killed Yu-Yevon while inside of Sin. So nya!

I think by slaughter all the women I meant all the main charaters who happen to be women.

Well, FFX had women and men playable. FFX-2 had only the women playable. Why not make FFX-3 and make only the men playable? Sounds like an idea.

Only problem is how badly FFX-2 sucked *sigh*

Omnislasher
April 6th, 2006, 3:09pm
And the fact that 1) sex sells and men /= sex. 2) having only men playable would make things balance in the FFX sub-series, but be really of an old style and boring as hell. Part of the fun is playing as women, either for their character roles or the perverted pleasure of just oogling them.

Richard
April 7th, 2006, 12:33pm
That is very true, especially in America. Maybe FFVII with only the female characters, then ;-)

Priest
April 7th, 2006, 1:10pm
Well I'm just gald that Square-Enix treated the fans of FFVII with a flick rather than a game. Don't get me wrong a FFVII side game would be awesome, but I don't see how you can out do a game as memorable as FFVII.

Richard
April 9th, 2006, 6:49pm
I would have enjoyed a FFVII-2. I think the storyline would have made an excellent RPG.

animeshounen
April 9th, 2006, 11:59pm
I agree. I mean, look how much FFVII is being banked on even now, years after the game was released.

There's the new movie coming out (hopefully soon), a game featuring one of it's characters, Vincent, and the addition of Sephiroth and the likes in Kingdom Hearts (voiced by Lance Bass....*shudders*).

I bet somewhere down the line, Sqeenix will have the bright idea to say "Hey! We can make even more money off this by making a legitimate sequel that is actually good n' stuff!" And they will. And the world will rejoice once more.

Because, as much as I love that game, and as much as I wanna replay it, I just can't get over the graphics and stuff. I mean, it seems shallow, but still. I'm definitley not the only one. Its the same with Goldeneye for N64. It used to be the best game...ever. But I try to play it now and I can't play it for more than 10 minutes. The only exception is Zelda, Ocarina of Time. But thats different, I guess. Whatever, I guess our generation is just spoiled.

Richard
April 10th, 2006, 3:01pm
Personally, I still love FFVII just as much as I did on day one, even with the (in my opinion wonderful) graphics.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see the whole thing redone on the PS3. I'd buy a PS3 just to play it. But I'd take a sequel with 1997 graphics =)

Cid Highwind
April 10th, 2006, 5:54pm
Yeah, the graphics look good to me! I've grown to love those graphics. But honestly, I'd be happy if games still looked like they did on SNES. They can be pretty nice, take Mother 2 for example.

Knodr
April 10th, 2006, 11:24pm
If they do remake it for the PS3 I hope they write a much better script .

Richard
April 11th, 2006, 10:53am
That's what scares me about a remake. What would they change? Would they just upgrade the graphics and just add some voiceovers? I mean, the whole game dynamic could change.

animeshounen
April 11th, 2006, 10:52pm
Two words.

Lance Bass.

Richard
April 12th, 2006, 1:15am
I think they'd use the current Sephiroth voice. In fact, I'd hope they'd use the entire AC cast... except Barrett...

The hell...? I still don't get why people are stuck on this FF7-remake idea. I hate it really. FF7 is a great game and we sure as hell don't need some idiots to remake the damn thing. Hell, Square doesn't even have the same staff members on the payroll that were around when FF7 was around.

And Richard, just for you, I grabbed my copy of GameInformer and am reprinting the article for you (it's a long read so take a breath, haha):

Last E3, Square Enix made fanboys squel when it showed how Final Fantasy VII could be remade on the PlayStation 3. Of course, the company went to pains to point out how it had no plans to release an updated version of Final Fantasy VII on the system. Rumors have been swirling since day one that the game would indeed come to the PS3, and now Loose Talk has not only heard that those rumors are true, but that the remake will in fact use the battle system from Final Fantasy XII.

SOOO... For anyone really wondering... IT'S A RUMOR, just like it always has been and probably always will be.

M@574 L337
April 23rd, 2006, 12:23pm
I'd rather it not come out if its going to have FFXIIs battle system, 'cause its just not going to be the same game that we love.

Omnislasher

But the dirty enlish was the best. It made the characters of Barret and Cid that much more realistic. I don't think anyone who played FFVIII liked Seifer calling everyone a "chickenwuss"...it had no impact like saying chickensh*t.

April 25th, 2006, 11:18am
the reasons why:

FFVII used the materia system

Corrected your grammatical errors for you. You have a good point though. If they removed materia, it would be a completely different game, since materia is so integral to the plot. The only other thing they could do to keep it but use the FFXII system is make materia open up slots like on the sphere grid in FFX...
