View Full Version : User Repuation

Does everyone like the karma system (ie, user reputation)?
Right now, you're stuck using it, with no way to turn it off. Would you like the ability to turn it off?
I, personally, like it, but the users whose reputations are getting lower do not. So, what are the members views on this topic?

I think if we made it to where all could view who left rep it would fix a few things, People would not leave blatent negative rep for no reason, as it would be signed by their name.
Also, if rep was disputable, ie.. someone gives blade a bad rep remark, and it's obvious that it was not needed, it could be shown to an admin or Super Mod who could then decide the final verdict on it.
That's my $.02

Well, as far as rep goes, it would also cause rep flame wars if you could see who did it. I know that people like myself and you all wouldn't cave in, but other members would, and you all know it.
As far as taking it to admins, you can do that now.

And how would we go about doing that? because I would like to fight the bad rep i got for the Xenosaga III title thread, as everyone knew the point of the thread in the first place.

If you want to dispute it, PM me.
However, keep in mind thats its really hard to even start rep wars. Once you give someone rep, you must give twenty more repuation points before yours will count toward someone again.
Seeing as how we have 5 active members, that should take awhile :p
I don't really think challenging it will do much good, but if you feel the need, go ahead.

I liked the system better when it was anonymous, honestly.
But um, I voted to keep it on. That's only because I didn't see the option that gives the user the ability to turn it off.
Look, some people just don't like the reputation system for whatever reason. They might feel bad when someone says something bad. Some people don't like to feel bad. My mom, for instance. If she joined she would want to turn it off.
She doesn't take critism, constructive or otherwise, very well.
But on the opposite side of the spectrum, there are people who realize that it's all fun and games and they don't take any offense to it at all.
If you allow the user to disable their own personal reputation, everyone can be happy. Why do we need to have an all-or-nothing attitude?

I still want to see what a couple more people decide before I make a decision.

I really don't care for the karma system. I voted to turn it off, but if it stays on I'm fine with that. I never look at the Karma someone has and didn't think anyone else did either, LOL.

so far it seems like kind of a downer, a big popularity contest if you will.... and apparently no one likes poor little me....

Well, it still isn't clear what the vast majority wants, so I'll continue to let people vote.

I'd like to see the ability to turn it off. I can remember that when I added the karma option to SU's forums, members could turn it off. Of course, I didn't bother to tell anyone that... ;)
