Rules/FAQ (Please Read)

Okay everyone, if you plan on participating in a game you must follow the rules. I'll try to keep them simple. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please post them here and I will try my best to assist you in all ways possible.

1) No signatures
Q: Why can't we have signatures in this forum?
A: I personally think that it is much easier to read through the posts without having to skip through signatures.
2) When creating a game, you must have a discussion thread and a game thread.
Q: What is the point of having two threads?
A: The game thread is only for the game, this way there is no interruptions. The discussion thread is for character profiles and overall ideas of the game.
3) No playing other people's characters.
Q: So, how far exactly does this rule go?
A: You cannot decide when another character attacks or defends, when he/she is hit or when he/she dodges. You cannot make major decisions for another character, assuming this character belongs to another member, such as the decision to leave an area.
4) No post wars, please.
Q: What is a post war?
A: A post war is when two or more people start posting like,one or two lines just to get ahead of everyone else.
Q: If we are helping the story line along, what does it matter how many lines we post?
A: If you combine everything into one post, it is more likely that there is not 54,583,045,340 new pages the next day. Also, when people post for the sheer joy of raising their count, they tend to go off topic, and that is a no-no.
5) No double-posting.
Q: Eventually I am going to post anyway. Why can't I just do it twice in a row?
A: Because then all the hard work behind coding the edit button goes to waste. Is it so important that you can't wait until after the next person?
Q: I need to get it out immediately, but I've already added my post.
A: The edit button is located in the bottom right corner of every post.
6) No one-hit death weapons or invincibility armors.
Q: What does it matter?
A: It can make the game not fun for a lot of people.
Q: Any exceptions?
A: Instant death attacks can be used on NPC, so long as no one is using the character at the time.
7) Pornographic/obscene scenes should NOT be graphic.
Q: Why? Everyone here seems mature enough.
A: It may seem that way, but some of them are not. This forum should be okay for a 5-year-old to read.
Q: A 5-year-old should be reading about profound things?
A: That is why if it needs to be said, it's to the point. There IS children on the net who lie about there age. I know.

Now I know I left a bunch of rules out, but it's quarter to 2 in my time zone, and I am dozing off on my keyboard. One last thing: awards.

Your individual posts will get you nothing in this forum, however, if you start a thread, you'll be awarded 5 Gil. If this is abused, I can always change it.

Now, the rules above can be hard to remember, I know. That is why every member shall get three chances to break them. If you exceed three, send me a PM with your heart and soul poured into it and I might forgive you. If you take advantage of me I will see to it that you are no longer welcome in this forum.

When are we welcome to post "games"? I'd like to see an example of one before I play, as I'm not too sure about things like conduct, battle play, etc.

Nanaki: First of all, leave your signature out of posts. Rule #1. Second, here's an example of how to roleplay:


Me Posting:

Kainyne stepped out from the shadows and surveyed the area. He noticed many things. The sounds of children happily playing, the fresh smell of grass, the gentle breeze blowing. He also noticed the dark figure sneaking up behind him.

"Stop," he mutteres, drawing his large bastard sword and turning to face the figure, "Who are you?"

Random User 139492 Posting:

"I am Jordyhie," replied the figure cooly, taking out a thin blade of his own, "and I don't like what you've been doing."

Suddenly, Jordyhie lunged at Kainyne and thrust his sword at the large dog-man's gut.

END

Now here, you can clearly see that User 139492 has attacked my character, but he doesn't state in his post whether or not the blow landed. It is up to the victim to determine if they're hit or not and how much damage is done. Remember though, another rule is that you aren't invincible. You have to get injured at some point or another, even if it is only minor.

However, in some RPGs there are the occasions where all characters, or most of them, are on the same side. In that case, any NPCs (non-playable characters) can be controlled in any which way, killed at will, etc. unless they are underlings of the main villain (almost always a player) and the villain wishes for them to stay alive. In a team situation, you still can not control anyone elses characters.

Ruby: First of all, I love you. Second, a game may be posted any time someone wishes to post it. I'll try to wrack my brain for a good idea tommorrow and may have it posted by wednesday. Until then, we may just remain in limbo.

Spice: Sorry for kind of taking control, but I assume you'll want some help, and I am afterall a veteran Guild Dir...and a master Guild *****. The latter duty which I am performing :P

p.s. Also, when posting a game, state the storyline and what not and then do an examplem profile of all the information you need using your character. Such things as name, race, class, statistics, appearance, history, abilities, weapons, armour, attire, and whatever else you can think of need to be stated in order for a clear idea of the character to be formed. Vauly, I'd like to ask you right now to please post your wonderful explanation of alignment. Thank you.

I always liked playing a ranger, but that meant I had to be good. Luckily Chaotic Good was acceptable. Fun.

Alignments to choose from

Lawful Good: "Crusader" A lawful good character acts as a good person is expected or required to act. He/she combines a commitment to oppose evil with the discipline to fight relentlessly. He/she tells the truth, keeps his/her word, helps those in need, and speaks out against injustice.

Neutral Good: "Benefactor" A neutral good character does the best that a good person can do. He/she is devoted to helping others. He/she works with kings and magistrates but does not feel beholden to them.

Chaotic Good: "Rebel" A chaotic good character acts as his/her conscience directs him/her with little regard for what others expect of him/her. He/she makes his/her own way, but he's/she's kind and benevolent. He/she believes in goodness and right but has little use for laws and regulations. He/she follows his/her own moral compass, which, although good, may not agree with that of society.

Lawful Neutral: "Judge" A lawful neutral person acts as law, tradition, or a personal code directs him/her. He/she may believe in personal order and live by a code or standard, or he/she may belive in order for all and favor a strong, organized government.

Neutral: "Undecided" A neutral character does what seems to be a good idea. He/she doesn't feel strongly one way or the other when it comes to good vs. evil or law or chaos. Most neutrality is a lack of conviction or bias rather than a commitment to neutrality. such a character thinks good as better than evil. After all, he/she would rather have good neighbors and rulers than evil ones.

Chaotic Neutral: "Free Spirit" A chaotic neutral character follows his whims. He is an individual first and last. He values his own liberaty but doesn't strive to protect others' freedom. He avoids authority, resents restrictions, and challenges traditions. The chaotic neutral character does not intentionally disrupt organizations as part of a campaign of anarchy.

Lawful evil: "Dominator" A lawful evil villain methodically takes what he wants within the limits of his code of conduct without regard to whom it hurts. He cares about tradition, loyalty, and order, but not about freedom, dignity, or life. He plays by the rules, but he is willing to serve. He condemns others not according to their actions but according to race, religion, homeland, or social rank. He is loath to break laws or promises. This reluctance is parlty because of his nature and partly because he depends on order to protect himself from those who oppose him on moral grounds. Some lawful evil characters have particular taboos, such as not killing in cold blood (but having underlings do it) or not letting children come to harm (if it can be helped).
Some lawful evil people and creatures are committed to evil with a zeal like that of a crusader committed to good.

Neutral Evil: "Malefactor" A neutral evil villain does whatever she can get away with. She is out for herself, pure and simple. She sheds no tears for those she kills, whether for profit, sport, or convenience. She has no love of order and holds no illusion that following laws, tradtions, or codes would make her any better or more noble. On the other hand, she doesn't have the restless nature or love of conflict that a chaotic evil villain has. The criminal who robs and murders to get what she wants is neutral evil.

Chaotic Evil: "Destroyer" A chaotic evil character does whatever his greed, hatred, and lust for destruction drive him to do. He is hot-tempered, vicious, arbitrarily, violent, and unpredictable. If simply out for whatever he can get, he is ruthless and brutal. If he is committed to the spread of evil and chaos, he is even worse. Thankfully, his plans are poorly organized. Typically, chaotic evil people can only be made to work together by force, and their leader lasts only as long as he can thwart attempts to topple or assassinate him. The demented sorcerer pursuing mad schemes of vengence and havoc is chaotic evil.

Hey, Kayla, what do you think of the idea of clans? It'd be kind of cool :D

There can be some clans to choose from: for example here:
Wolf, Cow, Dog, Rat, Fish, Tiger
Anyone can choose whatever one they want to join and someone can be in charge of each clan. It'd be something to add to a character's profile:
Name:
Race:
Clan: Cow
etc:

and say that the cow clan represents lawful good. This is just a general idea what type of character the player represents. Or something O_o
usually I'm a paladin or some good person... so I'd fit under the cow clan. (I like cows ^_^.... damned sugar)

And about the clan thing, whoever else is in that clan, the tiger, then they could buddy up in the games and their characters could know each other.

A rule idea! No insta-death attacks/weapons/spells and such.

Oh hey! I just thought of a great idea! If the one that created a specific game, there could be a side quest for a relic. And each additional game, more relics in them too and people could have those relics throughout the games that are made to boost up their character or something.
And it'd be kind of fun to somehow base a text-rpg from Dungeons and Dragons.

The clan idea is wonderful; I'm glad the idea made it to our board. However, I do think that we should only use it on some games as it could get tiring quite easily.
Just my thoughts- you guys decide just about everything in the forum. I want to attract people, so I'm gonna make it a democracy.

I think the Order of the Black Rose is a good clan name. Tedronai and Knodr, you two can duke it out to decide who gets to be in charge of chaotic evil. Unless there wants to be a rule for a person to only be in charge of one alignment O_o

I think that while the clan idea was quite good, the problem with it is simply that not enough people are interested in RPing and because that is the only place the clans can really have a place and interact, they become somewhat useless. Also, it does not really help that some of the clan leaders arent really too interested in RPing either. And perhaps, there are simply not enough members here yet for each clan to get an actual following. Either way though, we should keep them around, should any others become interested in the near future.

yea i think i've basically noticed the only people who want to run clans are the only people who want to rp period. These clans are gunna have about 0-2 people in them from my view, we just dont have enough interested people.
